History of the Association of Chinese Geneticists in America (ACGA).
During the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) meeting in Salt Lake City in 1985, Dr. Andrew T. Chen and Dr. Hsiao-Chen Chang walked to the banquet dinner of the society. Andrew asked Hsiachen whether she would like to meet the rest of the fellow Chinese American geneticists who came to the meeting. Hsiachen answered in affirmative and they rounded up all the Chinese American geneticists they saw and managed to sit next to each other- two tables. They enjoyed the friendship so much that they arranged to meet in Philadelphia again in 1986. During the Philadelphia meeting, the idea of forming the Association of Chinese Geneticists in America (ACGA) was agreed upon and Andrew was elected the first president. He was charged with writing the bylaws and the ACGA was incorporated in Georgia, USA in 1987.
